Tip From the Archives
Less Spin With Wedges
Problem
You want to reduce the amount of spin on your shots around the green.
Cure
Move your hands ahead of the ball to help reduce the amount of bounce and therefore spin onto the ball.
Therapy
Delofting your iron will reduce the amount of bounce of the club. Set up a row of balls to practice hitting around the green. Hold your finish position just after hitting the ball. Many players will already have the shaft pointing up into the air from cocking their wrists upwards. Work on keeping your wrist and hands aligned with your leading forearm after contact with the ball. You will find that if you have mastered this motion enough that you could actually hold your follow through position and move your arms back into setup for your next ball without any adjustments.
