Lag Putting
Problem
You are having difficulty reading the break on a long putt or you want to learn how to lag your putts.
Cure
When you have a hard time reading the break, you should try lag it. The goal of making a lag putt is to putt so you will have an easy second putt. Select an area near the hole at a distance you feel confident that you will be able to sink your next putt. Ignore the cup as you visualize where you want the ball to stop. Now that you do not have the stress of having to sink this one, relax as you take your putt.
Therapy
Use a practice green and place two ball markers about two feet apart. Stand on the opposite side of the green and practice putting the ball so it stops between the markers. Repeat this until you can consistently make the ball stop at the same spot. Then practice at different areas on the green. If you only carry one ball marker, aim to stop the ball between it and the cup from different sides of the green.
