Knife Drill

Problem

You slice the ball.

Cure

Try hooking the ball and gradually turn that hook into a nice draw.

Therapy

Practice hooking the ball with your 5 iron with the ball teed up a little. Take your trailing hand off of the grip just before contact with the ball. You should notice the toe of the club moving through first. Think of swinging your five iron as if you are swinging a knife. Once you are hooking the ball, slowly work on squaring the clubface until you start to draw the ball.

Are you joking? Moving from one flaw to another in hopes that a happy middle can be found is absurd. Finding and correcting the flaw causing the slice would be more productive.

agree with T and J. My slice was because I was coming over top of the ball. I've been working on fixing it by working on a more in to out swing, correcting and loosening my grip, and better alignment to the target. Lots of problems to solve, but they're heading me towards better control and confidence.

It worked for me. I only had to hook the ball a few times then straighten out the club face. It was enough to give me a better feel in my hands and arms on how to move the club through in order to stop my slice. I hooked the ball a few times and then each time I swung after this, I straightened the clubface until it was square. Now I'm hitting it crisply off of the tee and straight! It might not work for every slicer because of their swing style but it helped me. I must have been moving my hands or arms through incorrectly and this corrected my slice in just 6 or 7 practice swings. I guess when you are desperate enough, you'll try any drill till it helps.
