Island Greens

Problem

You need your ball to land on an island green.

Cure

Par should be your goal; this is the most realistic goal for even Tour Pros. Normally when you play, you would aim for the pin. On island greens, it is best to only account for the safest direction to come in on the green without the ball landing into the water.

Therapy

If you have never played this hole before, it would be safest to ask the staff about which side is best to come in on the green before starting your round. You will need to evaluate the green to determine which sides have the steepest slope and try to avoid coming in from those angles. Try to find an area that is flattest or has the most amount of fringe to help hold your ball, just in case it runs a little when it lands onto the green. If there are bunkers along the edge of the green; you may want to aim to come in on that direction so that the sand will play as your safety net. Make sure that you take the time to visualize where you want the ball to land and take practice swings as you do this. Once you feel confident that you have found the correct swing for success, go for it!
