In the Mud
Problem
Your ball landed in the mud and you need to learn how to lift it out.
Cure
If you do not make a steep enough swing then you will end up hitting the ball fat. Remember if there is more mud on either side of the ball that it may change how it flies. If there is more mud on the left side of the ball, then the ball is likely to fly a little right. If there is more mud on the right side of the ball, then the ball is likely to fly a little left.
Therapy
Preset your wrists during your backswing and keep them cocked all the way into the impact zone. This will help you make a steep, downward blow onto the ball while holding the clubface open. You will pull the ball to the left and not gain any loft if you allow a release of the clubhead. Keep in mind that the ball is more likely to fly off target when you swing hard due to the amount of spin you put onto the ball. Use a longer club so you do not need to swing as hard.
