Tip From the Archives
Important Perspective
Problem
You become overwhelmed while visualizing your line on the putting green because of all of the possibilities.
Cure
Remember that the slower the roll, the more likely it will roll offline due to any break on the green. This means, you can ignore minor dips and bumps on the green in areas that you expect the ball to be rolling quickly. Hit the ball solid to help eliminate some of the break.
Therapy
Having several views of your line can give you great input and allow you to use an extra sense of important flaws of the green by feeling the turf with your feet. However, do not overdo it. Take time to squat or even lay on the green behind your ball to visualize and commit to your line. This is the important moment where you can see your line, speed, and imagine the ball rolling into the cup. Once you are confident of your line and do not second guess it. Aim your putter, set up to the ball, and make a firm stroke with a generous follow through.
