Tip From the Archives
Impenetrable Hardpan Lie
Problem
Your ball lands on cement, asphalt, or gravel but is still considered to be inbounds.
Cure
You are unable to dig into the surface, so you need to pick the ball up off of the ground cleanly.
Therapy
Use a pitching wedge and place the ball in the center of your stance. Set the heel of the club so that it is off of the ground and the clubshaft is vertical. To help establish contact with the ball first, make a putting style stroke by rocking your shoulders up and down.
