How to Tip a Caddy

Problem

You do not know who to tip and who will be offended if you tipped them on at the golf course.

Cure

It is often easier to figure out who you should not tip at a golf club. The managers and teaching professionals are two of the highest paid employees at golf clubs and do not expect tips.

Therapy

Ask the course manager when you check in for your tee time if tipping is allowed. Think in terms of their salary. Caddies and club cleaners at golf courses are paid poorly because they are the most likely to receive tips. If an employee cleans or shines your clubs or shoes, a tip is most likely expected. Tips for a golf caddy can vary greatly based on their knowledge, assistance, and the cost of the round. Be certain to tip them generously if your caddy saved you extra strokes because he warned you about tricky greens or the best angle of approach. Based on the quality of the service and the amount of time they spent helping you, you can expect to tip anywhere from 10 to 30 percent of the cost of your round. If it is a ball drop, snack cart, or an employee that cleans your clubs or cart after your round, a couple of dollars is always appreciated.

Have always gone out of my way to acknowledge and chat to the greenkeepers at the course I was a member of in UK. The number of folk who openly abused them when they were doing their jobs was amazing. Like the caddies, I started earning my pocket money on the same course as a young lad. Not interested in golf then, only the money.How times change.We were treated kindly by those we caddied for. Obviously those who were short with greens staff or those mowing, need to refresh their memories of golf etiquette. The game is bigger than them. Tiger Woods might still be just good, were it not for Steve Williams.Think about it.
