How to Hit on a Sidehill Lie

Problem

Slicing, moving upright, or forward because you lose your balance on a side hill lie.

Cure

Imagine a slightly steeper swing path for a shot that moves from left to right and anchor your weight on your heels.

Therapy

Bend your knees more and adjust your weight onto your heels. You may need to aim slightly left of the target to help prevent a slice in this situation. If the ball is above your feet on a side of a hill, you will likely pull or hook the ball to the left. Club up, choke down on the grip, and open the face a little. Hand onto the club a little more with your forward had through impact to help prevent the ball from flying to the left of the target. If the ball is below your feet on a side hill lie, it is likely to push or slice towards the right of the target. Choose a club that you are most comfortable using at this distance and try to avoid placing your body weight onto your toes. Try flexing your knees and bending from the hips a little more than usual. Aim towards the left side of the target and anticipate a little loss of distance because if you swing too hard during this shot, you will contact the ball with the heel of the club and end up pulling the ball to the left. So remember to always try to swing within yourself on any steep sidehill lie.
