How to Hit on a Downhill Lie
Problem
Unable to make proper contact on a downhill lie.
Cure
Do not fight the slope! As you would on any hilly lie, try to keep your hips and shoulders parallel to the ground. Be sure to keep your weight on the inside of your left ankle.
Therapy
Take a higher lofted club and aim a little left of the target. Play the ball at the center of your stance. Your spine should be perpendicular to the slope and shoulders parallel to the ground so you can swing up the slope on the backswing and down the slope on the forward swing. Maintain a slight knee flex and take a steep swing. As you are swinging, try to keep the club head low throughout the shot. You should feel as if you are chasing the ball with your forward hand. It is very important that you create a proper hip turn; rotate your right hip behind you on the backswing and at impact it should be parallel to or just inside your left hip. You will have an easier time balancing and better ball flight if you complete your swing with a full finish.
