Hitting At It

Problem

You keep hitting at the ball instead of through it.

Cure

Imagine hitting a ball two inches in front of your actual ball. This will help you move through it better.

Therapy

Continuously swing your driver about as high as your shoulders, back and forth, in a sweeping motion. It will encourage the proper feeling of hitting through the ball instead of at it. If you take a very narrow stance or swing with your feet together, it will reduce the need to hit at the ball and a too powerful swing, because you will fall on your bottom if you do.

This visualization always increases the quality of my contact. It really helps me swing through the ball and make my club head speed the greatest just after hitting the ball. Also, it gives you the feeling of proper extension. Too many people hit hard from the top of the swing instead of making a smooth transition. This will cause all sorts of problems including loosing your balance. Also, swinging with your feet together really does give you the feeling of how to turn on the ball without over swinging (and loosing your balance). I think these are great tips.

Another tip for swinging through the ball, which I have even used on course whilst playing.Address the ball as normal, hover the club and just before the commencement of the backswing, swing the club over the top of the ball to about six inches or a foot forward of the ball. Then make a normal backswing and complete your stroke. The results are instantaneous and satisfying.A quick fix, which really works.
