Hit Impulse
Problem
You often try to hit the ball as hard as you can and have a horrible tee shot because of it.
Cure
Many times a player will realize that they need a greater yardage than their average drive. Without even thinking about it, they swing much harder than they planned on and their game suffers. Acknowledge the fact that you really want to hit the ball hard and decide not to.
Therapy
Once you take the time to acknowledge that this is your desire, you are less likely to subconsciously try to nail it. So, own this desire and purposelessly take an easy backswing with a smooth rhythm. Only plan on swinging at 80 to 85 percent power so you can have better ball control without any real loss of distance.
I often find this urge to kill it especially on a long par 5, produce a really ugly low and left hook shot. I love the thought of the 85 % power swing , and it will usually produce the long shot you wanted in the first place.
Now swinging with an easier tempo and more relaxed grip. The results were astounding. I have gained 40yards a club an a reptetitive accuracy I never previously enjoyed. A sneaky pleasure here in China on the range to see the interest in a short old foggy effortlessly 'smoking' every club, effortlesly.BLISS! 80-85% and it all comes together. ;-)
Great Advice! It's usually a random 'good result' that comes out of swing for the fences that make me go for it over and over again with poor outcomes. The thought of 'owning' that desire should help me better in the future ....
I used this 'owning that desire' principle and played great. I wrote 'OWNING THAT DESIRE 80 -85 ' on my arm and said it to myself before I swung. I love this advice and stuck to it all round today and shot a 2 over 74. Better than my 78 and 80's. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
