High Lip Bunker Shot

Problem

You have a fairway bunker shot that has a high lip.

Cure

Although you want the most distance possible out of a fairway bunker, you should chose a club with more loft than you think you need. All too often, players do not use a club with enough loft and end up burying the ball into the side of the bunker or having it kick back.

Therapy

Take a minute to determine which club you think will allow you to escape the bunker. Now select a club that is two lofts higher than that club. Place the ball in the center of your stance and set more bodyweight on your forward leg. Remember to accelerate your arms through the shot and keep your chin high throughout the entire swing.
