Tip From the Archives

High Chip

Problem

You only have a limited amount of green to work with between you and the hole on your chip shot.

Cure

Use one of your most lofted clubs for extra trajectory and do not place your hands ahead of the ball like you would with a normal chip.

Therapy

You should set up with your hands over the ball or if you want just a little less loft, you can place them just slightly ahead of it. The ball should be a little behind center with your feet closer together than they normally are when you would use for a full swing. Make sure you have more weight placed on your front or lead leg so you can make an easier descending blow on the golf ball. Most chips are done with a majority of the movement coming from their upper body. With this swing, feel free to allow an equal amount of upper and lower body movement through this shot. Keep in mind that you will need a longer swing length and extra wrist hinge for the high chip.

High Chip? Don't you mean a "Pitch Shot"? This description, fills a high, quick stopping ball, which is a Pitch as opposed to a lower running shot. The terminology you have used will create confusion for many. The technique if it works is good, but the description needs a tweak.
