Tip From the Archives

Hands check

Problem

You are not hitting in the direction that you are aiming at but you know that your feet, hips, and shoulders are aimed correctly.

Cure

Make sure you are squaring the clubface at impact and that the club is not turning in your hands.

Therapy

Make sure your hands are positioned correctly at the top and during the follow through of your swing. Your forward hand should not be cupped or cocked at the top of the swing. You should have the forward wrist straight at the top with the trailing wrist hinged. You want your trailing wrist straight during the follow through; almost as if you are extending your arm out to shake hands with someone.

Thankyou for this one. All of a sudden my swing deserted me! Just checked and found that my hands are fine. It is purely tempo was the reason. My swing had picked up speed considerably. For the right plane etc, swing back with just the leading hand and check the position of the hand and wrist. It will almost automatically fall into the correct plane etc. As a drill I do this and without pausing add the trailing hand and complete the swing with the added hand along only for the ride. It will suprise you how powerful your swing will be without any effort from you.
