Hand Tension Drill
Problem
No matter how much you try to regain control over the ball, you still seem to hit it off in random directions.
Cure
You might be over controlling your golf swing. This can cause the muscles in your hands, wrists, and arms to tighten, preventing a good release and accuracy. Even if you are gripping the club too tightly, this will cause your arms and shoulders to tense up as well. So, start your swing with relaxed hands to allow a natural swing with a release.
Therapy
You need to determine if you have too much tension in your hands. Swing holding the shaft of the club near the clubhead. Notice this feeling of swinging the club without the head on the end. Make several slow and fast swings this way. Now switch to holding it normally and feel the weight of the clubhead. If you cannot feel the weight, you know you are holding it too tight. Repeat this drill every time you think you have too much tension in your hands.
