Tip From the Archives
Half Swing Drill
Problem
You have been slicing the ball.
Cure
Do not flick your wrists into impact. Make sure you are rotating your forearms through the impact zone as you extend and keep your hands moving along the target line.
Therapy
Practice half swings with your irons and focus on releasing the clubhead as you approach the ball so that the clubface is square to the target at impact. You should have the same angle along your leading forearm and the shaft of the club as you had at set up. Pause your swing before your hands are waist high during your follow through. You know you have released the club enough when you can your trailing hand is on the top side of the club and you can see the last three fingers of your leading hand after impact.
