Greenside Grip

Problem

You have been playing golf for a while now but all of a sudden you are no longer making greenside shots.

Cure

Do not allow the tension of making this shot cause you to grip the club too hard. If you need to, squeeze the club as hard as you can for a few seconds and then relax your grip. By squeezing the club really hard, it will help ease some of the tension out of your hands and arms for a lighter feel on the club overall.

Therapy

Be certain that you are not excessively leaning the clubshaft forward or placing the ball too far back in your stance. You might also be placing too much bodyweight on your leading leg or even bending the forward knee. Remember to keep your hands soft and to use a good rhythm.

Found after experimenting recently for several weeks that too firm a grip on the grip leads to a much lower trajectory on the shots,ie a 9iron had a similar trajectory to a 5iron (though obviously shorter). To me this could cause more run and less stopping on the green.Sound like you?
