Tip From the Archives
Greenside Divot
Problem
The ball landed in a divot that is 20 yards or closer to the pin.
Cure
Make a V shaped swing with your sand wedge.
Therapy
Take a couple of practice shots while balancing the club on the toe. When you swing with the toe pointing down, it will be a lot easier to clear your way out of the divot with the rounded toe of the sand wedge. Whereas, if you hit with club fully soled at set up, you will have a harder time getting the club into the divot. Place more of your weight onto your forward foot and take a sharp, downward blow. Instead of creating the V shape for your swing by hinging your wrist, you could try to keep your wrists firm and allow the hinging action to occur by picking the club up from bending your arms at the elbows. This will help steepen your swing even more than usual.
