Tip From the Archives
Green Shot Out of the Light Rough
Problem
The ball is lying in the low to medium rough and the pin is very close to the fringe.
Cure
If you were a Tour Pro, you could rely on the ball landing on the side of the bank so the ball will just roll into the hole but for an average player, this is not likely to happen. In order to do this, you need to be able to stop the ball on a dime. Instead, try a bump-and-run or pop the ball up onto the side of the hill so that it bounces a couple of times onto the green.
Therapy
Choose a club that is around an 8-iron and remember to keep your wrists cocked throughout the swing. Place the ball slightly forward in your stance, use a strong grip, and make a downward blow. As you take this swing, focus on maintaining a right angle between your club and your forward arm.
