Golfers Elbow

Problem

You have pain in your elbow after a round of golf.

Cure

For elbow pain or golfers elbow you can use elbow compression pads or braces to help reduce the pain. Use of a NSAID such as ibuprofen can help reduce inflammation and pain as well. Work on strengthening the muscles around the elbow by doing exercises.

Therapy

One simple exercise that will help rebuild the strength of the muscles around your elbow is to squeeze a soft ball such as a racquetball, rubber ball, or gel filled squeeze ball. Do this at least 25 times a couple times each day. Now hold the arm straight out with the ball in your hand. Turn the ball as if you are turning a doorknob. Try to get the palm of your hand to point up and then down at least ten times. Repeat this exercise with your arm bent at the elbow. If this is an ongoing problem, you can discuss with your doctor about seeing a physical therapist to have electrical stimulation to help improve the tissue repair around your elbow. Using lighter clubs with bigger grips can help reduce the pain. In the meantime, practice and play less often until your elbow is feeling better.

Actually, a certified hand therapist would be better suited to do the therapy. I recommend and occupational therapist with a CHT designation as the best choice.
