Golf Balls

Problem

You do not know which types of golf balls are best for your swing.

Cure

Consider how the balls are designed. If they are two piece balls then they are great for providing distance by utilizing the energy transferred into the ball. Multilayer balls provide better feel with distance. Surlyn covers are more resilient, so you can play with them longer without affecting your game. Urethane covers are much softer and nick easier but they give you better control and feel. If the box states the balls are for spin control then they will have lower launch angles and help the ball fly straighter when you tend to hook or slice the ball. Distance balls allow greater amount of energy to be transferred from the clubface into the ball for more distance with higher launch angles. Balls labeled as total performance help control both spin and provide distance. These are great for people who want more feel in their short game without compromising distance off of the tee box.

Therapy

Keep in mind that it is usually best for someone with a slower swing speed to use a softer ball. This is because softer balls are easier to compress, providing more distance. If you are using a low compression ball with a fast swing speed then you will lose distance because you are losing energy that could be transferred into the ball. So, if you have a higher swing speed, you might want a ball type with high compression. Over all, the best way to determine the perfect ball for you is to try out a few different brands and see how they react while playing. Pitch them up onto the green. Does one hit better than the others or have a better feel to it? Now try using them on the tee box. Does one fly further than the others? Rank them on a piece of paper and decide the pros and cons of each ball are based on your swing and decide which ball is the best for you.
