Golf Ball Massage

Problem

You get charley horse in your feet or muscle cramping of a foot after a round of golf.

Cure

Foot cramps can have many causes; however, most are due to not drinking enough water or not eating enough foods with magnesium or potassium. Great foods with potassium and magnesium are yogurt, bananas, cantaloupe, nectarines, raisins, dates, honeydew, tomatoes, carrots, celery, spinach, squash, sweet potatoes, black beans, sunflower seeds, meat, and nuts.

Therapy

During the spasm, place all of your weight on the foot. As soon as it stops cramping, try to walk off the pain. A foot massage may help ease the pain. If you do not have time to massage your foot, simply place a golf ball on the ground and apply pressure against it with your foot. Roll the ball around with your foot as you are eating a meal or working at a desk. When you are done, flex the foot by curling your toes up towards the ceiling.

Take 3 quinine pills too. You can get them at Whole Foods or any health food store, just ask. Or, switch to gin and tonic, but you must drink a lot of it, too much to drive a car or a golf ball. So, I stick with the nice little pills.

I have used rolling golf balls under the soles of my feet for years! It is a normal Chinese practice to do so. It has other more beneficial effects on the rest of the body too. Here in North East China all the food items are available fresh and there is not one we don't eat regularly. Why take a pill when you can roll a little white one around under your foot for FREE?Srixon AD333 work best for me ;-)

Do not take quinnine if you have a history of tinnitus or a ringing sound in your ear

I'm a huge fan of using golf balls to massage. The advice of using it under the foot is good. Stretching before golfing (or any athletic activity for that matter) is often neglected and SO important. The right support in your shoes can also prevent cramping.
