Glove Drill
Problem
When you swing, your arms and body are out of sync, causing your arms to fly out independently of your body. As a result you have poor contact and distance. You might notice that when you try to apply extra power on the ball that it hooks to the left.
Cure
If you gently rotate the forearm on your forward arm as you take the club back, it will help shallow your swinging plane. This will allow your arms to swing more around your body, for a tighter coil. This will also help provide proper shoulder placement so you are less likely to hook the ball when you swing harder.
Therapy
Place a glove under the armpit of your forward arm. Make half swings with a three iron and try to keep the glove under your armpit. As you keep your forward arm close to your body, you will begin to notice your forward arm rotating gently. If you are right handed, your arm will rotate clockwise during your backswing and counterclockwise during your forward swing. Your forward arm will straighten at impact so that your arm and the clubshaft form a straight line.
