Fried Egg

Problem

The ball landed in the sand bunker in a crater of soft and dry sand, causing it to look like a fried egg.

Cure

Use a sand wedge or a pitching wedge with a slightly stronger grip than normal for a sand trap.

Therapy

The easiest way to dig deep into the sand is to square and hood the clubface with the ball towards the back of your stance. However, if you have a powerful enough swing, you can open the clubface and put the ball further in your stance. Place the majority of your weight onto your forward leg. Take the club back for a three quarter swing with a steep wrist hinge. Make a steep and forceful swing to dig the club deep into the sand about three inches behind the ball or on the edge of the crater. Avoid releasing through the shot so you are better able to hit down hard enough to bury the club into the sand.
