Forward Heel Down

Problem

Lifting the front heel during backswing causes a loss of power, a swing outside of the swinging plane, and the forward leg stiffens at impact.

Cure

Keep the forward heel down during the backswing but still allow the most of your body weight to shift onto your trailing side. It is important to maintain your knee flex throughout your swing.

Therapy

At address, flex your knees slightly and place an equal amount of weight onto both of your heels. Increasingly shift your body weight onto the heel of your trailing foot during the backswing. Aggressively shift and then anchor the majority of your body weight onto your forward heel during the downswing for a powerful inside-out path and impact. By the time you complete your follow through, you should have almost all of your weight shifted onto your forward foot with your belt buckle pointing at the target.
