Tip From the Archives

Flexible and Powerful

Problem

Your flexibility has improved in the past year yet you have not gained much distance at all.

Cure

In addition to your improved flexibility, you will also need to work on a longer arm swing and a faster pace.

Therapy

Develop a faster pace to complement your improved hip and shoulder turn. A gradual increase in pace would be ideal. Just be careful not to whip the club back really fast during your backswing. Your forward swing needs to be faster than your backswing and it should continue to accelerate well past the ball.

I am going the other way and trying to slow down my swing and not go back as far. Controlled and not swinging out side of myself. My 9 iron is my 150 club and I am not using it for my 140 smooth club. My flexibility has got much better over the last year but I need to lose a few pounds if I want a better turn.
