Fix Your Reverse Pivot

Problem

A reverse spine tilt causes you to lean your upper body towards the target during your backswing and lose distance. You might notice back pain during or after playing golf. This is because it causes a lot of pressure on your lower back from starting your downswing with your upper body so you are not able to gain enough leverage. This causes you to bend backwards above your waist and tip your forward hip slightly upwards as if you are holding a baseball bat instead of a club.

Cure

Tilt away from the target at the top of your swing to help coil and load for a powerful swing.

Therapy

Your chin and forward shoulder should be located just over your belt buckle at the top of your backswing with your spine straight. Your hips and legs should lead your forward swing and not your back. Practice swinging either in a mirror or so you can see your shadow to help check your upper body alignment so that it is leaning away from the target at the top of your backswing.
