Tip From the Archives
First Few Holes
Problem
You have noticed that the first few holes you play are the worst, every time you play.
Cure
It is hard to relax and find your normal swing. The more you try to, the worse your swing becomes. Sometimes it will take a few holes to get your mind and muscles accustomed to playing. Do not try to hit the ball hard or far until you are used to playing during the round.
Therapy
Focus only on trying to make contact with the ball with a slow and smooth swing for the first few holes. Start to hit a little harder once you feel comfortable and confident playing. By swinging slowly and smoothly at the beginning of the round, you establish proper timing and technique. This relaxes your muscles for better flexibility, swing mechanics, and ability to establish a powerful swing.
