Find a Sweet Spot for Sweet Shots
Problem
Hitting off of the toe or heel of the club face causing hooking, slicing, or poor distance. Teeing the ball up to high can cause you to make contact too low on the clubface.
Cure
Hitting at the center of the club face or in the sweet spot will cause the ball to fly much farther and straighter. Most drivers have a hot spot, it is located towards the top-center of your sweet spot. The hotspot will cause a high launch, low spin, and will give you an extra 10 yards if you can find it.
Therapy
When practicing, place a long tee about ¾ inch outside of where the driver’s toe will pass and a short tee about ¾ inch inside where the driver’s heel would pass. Now tee a ball as you normally would between the other tees and practice swinging very slowly until you can hit the ball without the club touching either tee. Slowly work your way up to full-speed swings and you should notice that the ball will go further with less effort. To find your hotspot, use chalk or a dry-erase marker to place a circle on your ball. Place the ball so the circle points straight back at your club face and hit some drives. The more complete of a circle that shows up on the club, then the closer you are to the sweet spot.
To see where you are hitting the ball, simply put some adhesive tape on the face of your golf club and you should see the impact.
you can actually buy suede pads which stick on your clubface. They show the impact of the club. A quick brush with a finger and it is ready for use again. I use chalk spots on the ball, give the clubface a wipe with a damp cloth, it show up the chalk mark off the ball clearer on the sweetspot.
