Tip From the Archives
Fast Unwind
Problem
You are slicing your drives and naturally have a steep swing.
Cure
You might be unwinding your shoulders too quickly. So, check to see how you are initiating your downswing. Leading the downswing with your shoulders will cause your arms to move outside of the target line, resulting in a slice; plus you will lose distance due to having too steep of a swinging plane.
Therapy
Tee three balls up along the target line about five inches apart. You can encourage a flatter swinging plane by hitting all three balls. Set up as usual to the middle ball. As you take the club back, hit the back ball. Hit the middle ball and continue along the path to hit the last ball. Now, set up again with the three balls but start your swing from the top position of the backswing. This way you have more time to focus on leading your swing with your arms and follow the target line with the clubhead in order to make contact with all three balls.
i thought you are supposed to initiate the downswing with the hip then the shoulders...
