Tip From the Archives

Fast Slice

Problem

You have a fast swing but are slicing the ball.

Cure

Check to make sure that you are not accelerating your arms too fast during the downswing. This will cause an inside out path so the face rotates as it approaches contact.

Therapy

Try swinging at 80 percent of your normal speed and it will help you keep your arms moving in sync with the rest of your body. This is also helpful because over acceleration can cause an improper weight shift, leading to a slice. As you dial down your speed, allow the club staying behind your hands as it approaches impact. Picture the club hitting on the inside of the back of the ball to help the club stay behind your body longer with a better swing path. Remember to keep your the heel of your back foot must remain on the ground through impact.
