Fast Greens
Problem
You are playing at a course that has much faster greens than you are used to. Your home course is using less water due to cooler temperatures, which is causing faster greens.
Cure
Many players choose to switch to a heavier putter on fast greens. This can prove to be a mistake because it is much easier to putt a little easier than getting used to a different putter.
Therapy
One thing you must remember is that fast greens have more of a break. Be especially careful when making a downhill putt because the ball will roll much further and break a lot more than you might expect. In addition to making a shorter backstroke or slower follow through, you can also try choking down on the grip. Experiment by holding the putter as low as possible and putt; then putt as you normally would. You should notice the ball rolling much less than it did when you held the club up on the grip. Another technique to reduce the speed of the ball is to hit off of the toe of the putter. Notice that this opens your clubface at impact so remember to adjust your aim.
