Tip From the Archives
Downhill Chip
Problem
You have a downhill shot and want to chip the ball onto the green.
Cure
Try making a soft chip to avoid getting too much forward roll.
Therapy
Take a narrow stance. Use your highest lofted club, ideally the sand wedge and open the clubface. Set up so your forward shoulder is a little higher than usual. Relax both of your hands and forearms but allow your trailing hand to take a very light grip. This will allow your forward wrist to control the stroke simply by hinging and unhinging your forward wrist. If someone was looking directly in front of you, they should not see your hands much wider than your stance.
