Divot Shot Near the Green
Problem
You need to hit the ball out of a divot that is only a short distance from the green.
Cure
You will naturally have a lower trajectory than expected with your wedge because it is in a divot. So make sure that you add a little more force behind a steep descending blow to help lift it out. Due to the sidespin that will occur, you will need to aim a little left of the pin with an open clubface.
Therapy
Place the ball just off of your back foot. Choke down on the grip and cock your wrists early to help encourage a steeper backswing on an outside path. Since you need to avoid pushing the ball deeper into the ground, you should try to make contact with the ground a split second before the ball with a sharp downward blow. Keep your hands ahead of the ball through impact. You should square the clubface just before contact as you focus on preventing your backhand from rolling over your forward hand.
