Tip From the Archives

Divide Your Putts

Problem

You are having difficulty reading the break on the green when there are more than one dip or bump along your line.

Cure

Remember, the faster the ball is rolling, the less the break will affect the roll. So, consider this fact when trying to decide which hills and valleys on the green will cause the most break.

Therapy

Divide your putting line into three different sections by placing two ball markers on the ground or by mentally selecting where these points are while the ball is in play. Between the ball and the first marker, you now the ball will be rolling the fastest. The ball will be slowing down between the two markers; so the break will start to have more affect on it. The ball will move at the slowest speed after it passes the second marker and therefore will fall victim to the break the most after this point.
