Distance From Ball

Problem

You need a drill to remember how far to stand from the ball.

Cure

Simply sweeping the club across the ground in front of you with relaxed arms is an easy way to get a feel for where you want to place the ball.

Therapy

Assume your normal stance. Hold the club in your forward hand only. Now extend the thumb and forefingers of your trailing hand so that your thumb is touching your forward hand and your pinkie is touching your forward leg. This gap between your hand on the club and leg will give an idea how far the club should be from your body. Now look to see where the clubface is setting on the ground and place the ball at this location. Another way to determine ball placement is to rock your body forward onto your toes and then back on your heels. Keep rocking your body a little slower until you feel your weight starting to center itself on your arches. Once you know your weight is placed on your feet correctly, then ground the club with your arms relaxed. Where the clubhead is resting on the ground is where you want the ball to be set up at.

The problem that most people have is standing too close to the ball... after they hit it.

they say a picture is worth a thousand words..... this tip is very hard to follow. perhaps you could add a video with your tips to help the verbally understanding challenged as myself.

We added in some extra details that will hopefully make it a little easier to understand. Although videos would be great to add, we are not able to do so at this time.

With golf instruction (on many levels) its very common that training methods are provided with a certain level of "assumption" in regards to how much the golfer already knows. This is nonexistant with live instruction of course. This one "appears" to assume the golfer already knows how to manage the club(shaft/head) at ground level. I use the nickel technique, others go flat, etc.
