Delay Your Release

Problem

You are great at hitting your long irons but cannot successfully achieve making the more difficult wedge shots.

Cure

A strong release is beneficial during your long game; however, sometimes your short game will improve if you delay the release. This is often the case when you are in the mud, sandbunkers, or rough. Focus on keeping the back of your forward hand and the clubface pointing towards the sky during your follow through.

Therapy

A great way to help delay the release of the clubhead with your short irons is to keep your back arm close to your side. Place your glove or a headcover near your armpit and try to keep it there as you swing. This will help you turn your upper body more and delay the release of the clubhead by preventing the rotation of your forearms.
