Deep Pitches
Problem
You notice that you have really deep divots after taking a pitch shot.
Cure
If your pitches are flying shorter than you desire then it is likely that you are taking too steep of a swing and only need to shallow it out a bit by turning more with your body. If you only notice deep divots, try opening the clubface a little more; this will allow you to get the loft you desire without a loss of power.
Therapy
Set up with your hands over the ball with the clubshaft tilted slightly towards the target. Utilize the bounce of the club by allowing the clubface to rotate open during the backswing. Shift your trailing knee towards the target during the forward swing so it is just ahead of the ball at contact. The clubface will continue to open as you take your follow through. Continue turning your body so that your body is pointing just past the target at the end of the swing. At this point, the club should be about waist high and the clubhead should match the angle of your spine, leaning away from the target.
