Deep Bunker

Problem

How to get out of a bunker when the lip is taller than you are.

Cure

Do not try to help the ball up by leaning back, away from the target. Let the loft of the club do that for you. Be realistic about your goals and simply plan on getting the ball out of the sand trap. This means you might want to select the lowest lip of the bunker to hit out of, even if it is behind you.

Therapy

Use the full loft of your sand wedge. Keep your hands neutral so that they are even with the ball. Stay centered while you swing. Accelerate through the sand and finish with your hands at least waist high or more. Remember to keep the loft on your club so that you still have the same loft at finish as you did at set up.
