Tip From the Archives
Cushioned Grass
Problem
Your ball lands in an island of grass in the middle of a sand bunker next too the green or in a cushioned greenside rough.
Cure
Swing down using a sand wedge so you hit the grass just behind the ball for a high shot with gentle roll.
Therapy
Take an open stance and use an open clubface. Take your backswing so that the club moves in an upright arc while you cock your wrists steeper than you usually would. Remember to swing downwards so that you contact the grass located just behind the ball and this will help provide you with the loft you need with a soft landing.
