Tip From the Archives

Curling Under

Problem

The ball flies unpredictably or bounces too much on the green while chipping because the trailing hand turns over the leading hand too quickly.

Cure

Lead the shot with your forward arm. Practice chipping using only your forward arm and see if your chipping improves. If it does, it is likely that your trailing arm is causing the error.

Therapy

Set up to the ball in your usual chipping stance. Curl your forward hand under the club as you take the club back and keep it that way during the rest of the swing. This should help prevent an exaggerated release.
