Cure for Anxiety

Problem

You are unable to recover once you become stressed out on the course.

Cure

Take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds as you set up. Slowly exhale before you initiate your swing and this can help release some of this tension you are feeling.

Therapy

Sometimes deep breathing is not enough to relax a person. Notice when you tap yourself in the chest at a random number of times and apply random amounts of pressure and speed that your anxiety levels will increase. However, if you then tap your chest in a slow but steady pace that it will have a calming effect. It will even calm you further if you can then gradually slow this patting down to an even slower pace. Utilize this technique to help calm your nerves and relax the muscles in your body by tapping your wrist in a slow but steady pace. Feel a wave of relaxation wash over you and notice how the muscles around your wrist are relaxing. Although there will be a time when you need to stop this tapping, you can keep the tempo in your mind and will still have the sensation in your wrists as you take your next swing.

This is a huge problem for me when I play in tournaments. I take a deep breath but it is not always enough. I usually need to take a few sips of Scotch to relax me. The funny thing is I do not drink.

Yeah, Scotch or muscle relaxants seem like a good idea to me:-)
