Controlled Fade
Problem
You want to hit a power fade to help the ball around a dogleg or for playing in crosswinds.
Cure
The release of your forward arm is important for playing a controlled power fade. For a better release, try using a weaker grip by moving your hands towards the target. Avoid teeing the ball down too low because this might cause you to get too much loft and spin.
Therapy
For a little extra power, try to hit the ball just past the bottom of your swing. To achieve this, you should tee the ball further ahead in your stance than usual and set it up a little higher. For a right handed player trying to get a fade, aim your body left of the target. For a left hander trying to get a fade, aim your body right of the target. Use a square or a slightly open clubface and swing along your body. Allow your hips to initiate the forward swing by shifting them towards the target before starting to turn. This will help you to gain a better weight shift and lower your hands. With your hands in a lower, weaker grip position, you should find it easier to release your forward hand into the ball much easier for a controlled fade.
Quite good but rather complicated. To hit a fade firm up the last three fingers on your leading hand. For a draw relax your whole grip pressure. It is a wee bit easier than confusing your brain with a complicated explanation, which will lead to paralysis by analysis! Give it a go.
Wow, this is exactly how I do it. Works brilliantly every time.
