Tip From the Archives
Consistent Plane
Problem
You need to improve your accuracy and power.
Cure
Focus on consistently swinging on plane. Once you do, you will be able to make square contact with the ball, gain full arm extension, and rotate easier for more power.
Therapy
Pay extra attention to your takeaway. The way you take the club back away from the ball will set up the rest of your swing. Know ahead of time how you want the club to move back away from the ball. Take an extra minute to visualize the beginning of your backswing and establish this with an extra long waggle. As you practice, it might help you to lay down tape along this desired path. Then be certain to keep the clubhead moving along this path as it passes the tape.
To hit the ball straight (no fade or draw) on the backswing check that the shaft of the club is pointing at the ball when your left arm is parallel to the ground.
