Tip From the Archives
Consistent Ball Striking
Problem
Straightening out your hips during the backswing or a having a poor tempo can cause poor and inconsistent contact with the ball.
Cure
Try to maintain your hip bend and spine angle throughout your swing.
Therapy
Practice turning as you would in a swing, with the hands placed just above your hips, bend at your hips and flex your knees. You should be able to see your pinkie fingers throughout the entire turn. You can improve your tempo by swinging a rubber hose to help create the feel for a steady acceleration of the club during the downswing and for a more consistent swinging path.
