Problem

Anytime you play it safe, you mess up the shot.

Cure

Simply playing it safe is not enough, you need to commit yourself to making this shot. If you are laying up against your will, you will end up focusing more on where you wish you could land the ball and not visualize properly on your target. Plus, your muscles will react to this indecision and you will miss the shot.

Therapy

Say you are looking at a difficult pin position. Often, people will play an aggressive shot at the flag when a conservative shot on the green would be ideal. Ignore the pin, select a target to aim at, try to hit it at this target. Remember to take a relaxed rehearsal swing with the image of your target area in your mind. Look at this spot as you set up to the ball and again before you start your swing. This will help you commit to hitting your target area.
