Tip From the Archives
Cold Between
Problem
You are playing in cold weather and cannot decide between using two clubs.
Cure
When the air is cold, the ball will not fly as far. So when you are between clubs, use the one that will give you the greater distance.
Therapy
Use the normal set up and swing with this club. If you have a nagging feeling that you have selected the wrong club, choke down on the grip and take your normal swing. This will reduce the distance a little and put your mind at ease. Just remember that the colder the air, the thicker it is and the slower the ball will fly through it. So do not be afraid to use the longer club.
Here is another tip for cold weather golf. Keep 2 balls in your pocket and switch to the warm one on the tee box. A warm ball travels further than a cold one, especially when it is close to freezing.
