Chitch It

Problem

You are near the green with a good lie. You are looking for a shot with plenty of roll on a long green.

Cure

Ever wonder how to play a chitch shot? This is a great shot to have so the ball flies half of the way and rolls the other half to the hole. It is called a chitch because it is a cross between a chip and run and a pitch, giving you a generous amount of roll.

Therapy

Use your pitching wedge or your shortest iron. Set the ball behind the middle of your stance towards your trailing foot. Place just a little more than half of your body weight on your forward leg. Lean the shaft towards the target to deloft the club. Think of your arms and shoulders as swinging in unison as you turn your body into the swing. This will help discourage an excessive amount of wrist cock. You will only want to swing the club waist high for a thirty yard shot. You can shorten your swing for a shorter shot or increase the swing for a longer shot. Just make sure that your follow through matches the length of your backswing.
