Chin Up
Problem
You noticed during short shots that halfway through the downswing, it feels a little stiff or jerky.
Cure
Check your posture. Your chin should be off of your chest and make sure you are not dropping your trailing shoulder. Remember, with irons, you need to hit down on the ball to get the ball up, so it is not necessary to get low and under the ball to scoop it up.
Therapy
Many players have posture problems and double check it on the tee box. It is equally important to check it during your short game. If you keep your chin up during the short game, you will be able to get a better turn. Try a couple of shots hunched over with your chin down. You will see that it makes it diffucult to make a proper turn and to move the club down into the ball in a smooth motion. Now try it again with your chin up, well off of your sternum with a straight spine and see the improvement.
